Immigration Screening Physical Examination
Providing the Required Physicals for Your Citizenship
Any application for U.S. permanent residency or for a fiancé visa will include a medical exam by a doctor approved by the U.S. consulate or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Dr. Osorio is certified to perform these medical exams. At RWJBarnabas Renaissance we invite individuals needing immigration screening physicals to stop by to schedule an appointment today and our staff will be happy to help you.
This requirement applies to both adult and child applicants and our doctors will take age into account for purposes of things like deciding which vaccines are necessary.
Typically, the physical exam includes looking at your eyes, ears, nose and throat, extremities, heart, lungs, abdomen, lymph nodes, and skin. The doctor will also order a chest X-ray and blood test.
What Are Our Doctors Looking For?
This is not like a regular physical exam or check-up, where you bring up health issues that you are experiencing, and receive wide-ranging medical advice. It is more of a screening exam, to see whether it is safe to allow you into the United States. You don’t have to be in perfect health, but you must not have any serious or communicable diseases, mental disorders, or drug problems that would make you ineligible for a visa or green card.
If you’re applying to adjust status in the U.S., the diseases that can make you inadmissible (as of 2020) are gonorrhea, infectious leprosy (Hansen’s disease), infectious stage syphilis, and active tuberculosis. If you are in need of this exam please contact us today to schedule an appointment.
