COVID-19

Helping You Stay Healthy During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered (novel) coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people and those with underlying medical problems like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness that requires hospitalization.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes, and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by wearing a facial mask, washing your hands, using an alcohol-based rub frequently, and avoiding touching your face. Our doctors and healthcare providers at RWJBarnabas Renaissance have been educated and trained on how to deal with COVID-19 and the associated symptoms. Our goal is to provide our patients with quality and informative care so that they too understand the disease they may be dealing with.

The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important to also practice respiratory etiquette (i.e. by coughing into a flexed elbow or wearing a face covering over your nose and mouth).

The World Health Organization (WHO) will continue to provide updated information as soon as clinical findings become available and we will continue to supply our own patients with quality care and work to treat COVID-19
